Decades of Devotion: The Milagro Legacy
2003
While on safari I was transferred to a safari camp near D'kar Botswana. As is the case with all African safari camps there is a campfire where everyone collects for "sundowners" before dinner in the "boma". Afterwards everyone gathers back to the fire and will sit around and discuss the day's sightings and generally visit with everyone at the lodge or camp.
On the second evening a lady and her son joined us. Soon a discussion began about who they were and what they were doing in the area. She and her son started telling us about a children's home that she was building just a few kilometers from the camp. Her son just graduated from University in Texas. As we talked, they mentioned that they needed an American non-profit entity for fund raining in America. I asked if we could visit the project and it was arranged to go there the next day at lunch time.
The buildings were of excellent quality and the project was about 80% completed. I promised to look into what could be done to set up a non-profit company when I returned to the USA.
A few weeks later my estate attorney and I set up the Kalahari Children's Home Foundation, now The Milagro Charitable Foundation. We began raising funds for support of the Botswana Siyiapei Home in Kenya, Africa, and The India Children's Ministries in India.
Over the years we have been able to provide funds for the general support of the Homes and even purchase a bus for the Home so that the children in the area could be easily and safely transported.
Today we continue to provide whatever support we can to these Homes.
If you would like to participate in this project, we invite you to donate to a Home by designating your donation to any of the two funds of your choice.

Across Deserts and Mountains: Kenya and India's Tales
Witness the Change We’re Championing in Young Lives
The Power of Shared Love
In 2017 Becky and I stopped in Kenya on our way back from an India business meeting to visit the places where Becky lived in Kenya. At Siyapei where she lived with her missionary parents we learned that there was a children's home nearby.
We contacted the people who run the home and have been very impressed with the care and love they give orphans and distressed children in the area.
Because the COVID pandemic has place a strain on the funding of the home we began providing support in mid-2020 through a nonprofit organization .
If you would like to contribute to this children's home donate to the designated Kenya Children's Home fund.
A Story of Generosity and Growth
I first met Tim Dobbs in Mozambique in 2018. We were staying at a fishing camp on the Cahora Bassa Lake. Sitting around the camp fire one evening we started sharing what interested us in life and discovered that we had a lot in common. A shared faith in Jesus Christ and we both were involved in supporting highly at-risk children with financial support in Africa and India. I asked Tim to share his story which follows. -Bill Holmes
" In 2010 I, a minister in Midland Texas, made a trip to Assam India to evaluate the work of seven Indian evangelists the church was supporting. My pre-trip research reported India to have the world's largest child population of 400 million. This did not prepare me for what I witnessed when I arrived. Sights of abandoned children were common. After meeting with Indian church leaders the decision was made to convert a church building into a children's home. Upon arrival back to the USA I formed India Children's Ministries (ICM) a 501 (c)(3) non-pro-fit organization. Today Indian Christians run the day-to-day operations." -Tim Dobbs

The Advocacy Center for the Children of El Paso is a nationally accredited children's advocacy center. We are the first stop for children in El Paso County who are suspected victims of sexual and serious physical abuse and for children who have witnessed a violent crime. The Advocacy Center for the Children of El Paso is a child-friendly, specially equipped facility where children go for interviews, counseling and intervention during the investigation and prosecution of child abuse cases. All services are provided at no charge.
India Children's Ministries is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, which is dedicated to giving children shelter, food, medicine, clothes, and education. The way we plan to do this is to join the missionary who is already there, Dimbeswar Burman. He began a small orphanage called the Ruth Gunther Center a few years ago and needs help building, growing, and maintaining the facility so that more children can be taken in. We will build children's centers where the children will be housed until they graduate from school.
Operation Underground Railroad (O.U.R.) has made a significant impact in the fight to end sex trafficking and sexual exploitation by assisting in rescuing and supporting thousands of survivors in almost 40 countries and 50 U.S. states. Our approach is adapted to geographical location, the needs of survivors, and best practices in the field.
